Liberating Coffee & the People Who Grow It
Our Andean Arabica blend is made with Peruvian Strictly High Grown coffee, grown over 1500m altitude to enable the bean to grow slowly and giving it time to develop more fruity acidity and smooth, syrupy sweetness. The shade-growing method also causes the bean to mature slowly, creating a wonderfully rich yet fruity and lightly acidic bean that blends well with our chosen spices.
The cooperative that grows this organic, fairly traded, Rainforest Alliance certified coffee was founded in 1970 by a group of Peruvian coffee farmers in the Lake Titicaca region of Peru in order to find a better way of getting their coffee to market. Its members are from the indigenous Quechua and Aymara tribes.
The coop works on behalf of workers providing resources to ensure the well being of all that work and live there from investments in new sewerage and water supply systems for the inhabitants of the area to schools for the children of the farmers, improved healthcare, a hydro-electric plant for electricity supply and a program to support womens’ rights.
